John Challenger - Organ

John Challenger was born in Hereford and received his early musical education under Geraint Bowen as a chorister and organ pupil at Hereford Cathedral. He was appointed organ scholar of St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in 2006, during which time he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists. From 2008-11, John was an organ scholar of St John’s College, Cambridge, where he was musical director of the St John’s Singers (the college’s mixed-voice choir) and president of the St John’s College Music Society; from 2011-12, he is acting as assistant organist of St John’s College Chapel.

With the choir of St John’s, John has performed throughout Europe and the USA, and has been broadcast on BBC Radios 3 and 4. He has studied the organ in the UK with Jeremy Filsell, David Sanger and in Paris with Frédéric Blanc; he currently studies with Mark Williams and David Briggs. As a piano accompanist, continuo player and recitalist, he has appeared in the Three Choirs Festival, Windsor Festival, and venues across the UK and Europe.
