Luperci de Souza - Tenor

Brazilian tenor Luperci de Souza began his musical training with the Canarinhos de Petropolis boys’ choir. He studied singing in the School of Music of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with the baritone Inacio de Nonno. He later worked with the pianist Claudio Avila in Rio de Janeiro and then studied in the Catholic University of Salta, Argentina where he studied with Jorge Lhez. He participated in Masterclasses with several well known musical names like Benito Maresca, Mitsuko Shirai and Ileana Cotrubas. He has worked in the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, Teatro Provincial de Salta and Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon. He sang with Luis Gaeta and Cecilia Diaz in a concert in Salta, Argentina and recorded scenes of a soap opera on television in Brazil, in which he played the part of an opera singer.

Opera roles include Tamino and Monostatos Die Zauberflote, Nemorino L’elisir d’Amore, Rinuccio Gianni Schicchi, Rodolfo La Boheme, Spoletta Tosca, Arlecchin I Pagliacci, Bastien Bastien und Bastienne, Damãio Maroquinhas Fru-Fru. Concert work includes Beethoven Ninth Symphony, Haydn The Creation, Bach Magnificat, Cantatas BWV 4, 61, 65, 78, 140, 182, Handel Messiah, Schubert Mass in G, Mozart Requiem, Mendelssohn Lobgesang, Manuel de Falla Siete Canciones Populares Espanolas, Villa-Lobos Vida Pura, Dubois The Seven Last Words of Christ, Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio. He also appears regularly in recital, singing German Lieder, French chanson and Brazilian songs.

He has started to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, with Stephen Robertson. His studies are being supported by an ABRSM international scholarship.
